Things get a little iffy around 12/18 - the Metabolic Boost upgrade may be at 14/18 instead of 12/18. 10/10 Spawning Pool 9/10 Drone 10/10 Overlord, Extractor 10/18 Drone x2 12/18 Queen, Research Metabolic Boost 14/18 Dronex4, Overlord (as minerals become available) 18/26 Zerglings x8, Lair Using this build I can crank out 16 Speedlings in roughly five minutes. The problem is that by then my opponent has almost always blocked off his choke (at least in ZvT/ZvP). Is there anything I can do to this build to cut down on production time, or should I just use my Speedlings for map control/base defense while I tech to stronger units?
Use your speedlings for map control and base defense. Take your natural while you deny theirs. Then keep pumping drones and you will have an economic advantage for the rest of the game, if you keep expanding.
you can cut out 14/18 Drone x4 and go for more speedlings...but you've probably already tried that...I usually go straight for the baneling bust w speedlings which looks like this: 9 -- Overlord 12 -- Extractor 12 -- Spawning Pool (get a queen out immediately once the spawning pool is complete) use spawn larva then go for the speedling upgrade and baneling nest. I use the build you've mentioned above too, and sometimes the wall will be there and sometimes it wont. If I use speedlings and they fail I go for roaches to try to breach the wall or have a lair rdy for hydras/mutas.
Speedlings are only great if you can sneak em in. I had an opponent sneak them into my base one time when I dropped my supply depot, and by the time I saw it, they were all over my minerals! Fortunately I had enough to defend against them, but still, quite annoying. I would use them in ZVT to defend against a reaper rush since they will kite you like crazy, you NEED the boost to get in their face and take them out. Other than that, they only work if you get lucky
Not really. Crack the wall with some Banelings, run in your speed upgraded Zerglings, and your opponents workers won't know what hit them. Try to think outside of the box for a bit, think of your army as a whole. Now you're seeing the unit as if it alone should do everything, which makes no sense. :/
you could also go for the nydus bust using those speedlings...but it takes so long to develop and doesn't involve any other units than speedlings that the plan doesn't do the trick an early baneling bust could- unless the surprise of the nydus really turns the tide. Nydus bust looks like this: 10/10 overlord 14/18 spawning pool 15/18 overlord 15/26 hatchery 14/26 4x zerglings 16/26 queen 18/26 8x zerglings 22/26 queen 24/28 6x zerglings 27/28 overlord 27/36 6 zerglings 33/36 2x gas 35/36 overlord 42/44 lair 42/44 overlord 43/44 zergling speed 44/44 gas 49/52 2x overlords 50/52 nydus network 49/68 about 30 zerglings 65/68 nydus worm
@ ikkabotz I generally like using a 12 pool/extract for speedling rushes. Even if the rush doesn't work, having early speedlings will give you map control early game and will rip apart any early harassment.
speedlings=bad i dont like speedlings im so fast i make armys when they have speedlings and when im not that quick i can take care of them with workers in other words i advise not to use speedlings because if you mess up on the rush you are dead
